Combining eye tracking and pupillary dilation analysis to identify Website Key Objects
نویسندگان
چکیده
Identifying the salient zones fromWeb interfaces, namely the Website Key Objects, is an essential part of the personalization process that current Web systems perform to increase user engagement. While several techniques have been proposed, most of them are focused on the use of Web usage logs. Only recently has the use of data from users' biological responses emerged as an alternative to enrich the analysis. In this work, a model is proposed to identify Website Key Objects that not only takes into account visual gaze activity, such as fixation time, but also the impact of pupil dilation. Our main hypothesis is that there is a strong relationship in terms of the pupil dynamics and the Web user preferences on a Web page. An empirical study was conducted on a real Website, from which the navigational activity of 23 subjects was captured using an eye tracking device. Results showed that the inclusion of pupillary activity, although not conclusively, allows us to extract a more robust Web Object classification, achieving a 14% increment in the overall accuracy. & 2015 Elsevier B.V. Pupillary Response: Removing Screen Luminosity Effects for Clearer Implicit Feedback
Pupillary dilation measured by eye-tracking can be useful source of implicit feedback for system adaptation and personalization. For example, cognitive load or emotional excitation can be inferred from it. However, practical exploitation of this phenomenon (e.g., in adaptive systems or user studies) has been limited due to other factors that influence pupillary dilation, namely changing luminos...

Recently, researchers started using cognitive load in various settings, e.g., educational psychology, cognitive load theory, or human– computer interaction. Cognitive load characterizes a tasks’ demand on the limited information processing capacity of the brain. The widespread adoption of eye–tracking devices led to increased attention for objectively measuring cognitive load via pupil dilation...
متن کاملConvolutional Gating Network for Object Tracking
Object tracking through multiple cameras is a popular research topic in security and surveillance systems especially when human objects are the target. However, occlusion is one of the challenging problems for the tracking process. This paper proposes a multiple-camera-based cooperative tracking method to overcome the occlusion problem. The paper presents a new model for combining convolutiona...
متن کاملUsing Psychophysiological Sensors to Assess Mental Workload During Web Browsing
Knowledge of the mental workload induced by a Web page is essential for improving users' browsing experience. However, continuously assessing the mental workload during a browsing task is challenging. To address this issue, this paper leverages the correlation between stimuli and physiological responses, which are measured with high-frequency, non-invasive psychophysiological sensors during ver...
متن کاملEye tracking studies of normative and atypical development q
This paper reviews the use of eye tracking measures (saccades, smooth-pursuit eye movements, fixations during scene and face perception, and pupillary dilation) to study typical and clinical populations of children and adolescents and evaluates the use of these measures. The studies are evaluated with a focus on points that may be of general interest to developmentalists (the contribution of co...
